If Not Us 👑 Then Who 👑 If Not Now 👑 Then When 👑
Young Black Motivated Kings & Queens (YBMKQ) was founded by Kahlil Darden as a response to the challenges he witnessed growing up in the Greater Allegheny County area. At just 15 years old, Kahlil’s life was deeply impacted by gun violence, which fueled his determination to become a change agent in his community. Recognizing the need for a safe space where young people—especially African American youth—could find support, mentorship, and opportunities for growth, he launched YBMKQ.
What started as a small brotherhood for young Black men soon evolved into a broader movement, expanding to include female activists and change makers through Young Black Motivated Kings & Queens . The organization’s mission grew to address critical issues like trauma, disinvestment, and systemic barriers, using creative and expressive programming to empower youth. Since its founding, YBMKQ has provided mentorship, entrepreneurship development, leadership development, out of school time programming, and educational opportunities, equipping young people with the tools they need to build equitable, successful lives.

YBMKQ has continued to amplify its impact, inspiring the next generation of leaders and change-makers.
