PROGRAM PILLARS
Academic Enrichment
STEM Workshops:
Hands-on experiments and projects in science, technology, engineering, and math stimulate curiosity and problem-solving skills. YBMKQ is fortunate to be partnered with the renowned Citizens Science Lab (‘CSL’) for all STEM activities. CSL’s experienced staff produces a robust, peer-reviewed curriculum, providing our youth with unparalleled opportunities for STEM enrichment.
Academic Curriculum:
Our curriculum encourages learning through engaging activities and assessments in math, reading, and Black history. We ensure that our youth continue to challenge their minds and excel during the break from school.
Computer Coding:
As part of our summer camp, our youth are introduced to computer coding through focused sessions on the basics of coding and development. Our students are inspired by this enriching opportunity and empowered to explore the world of coding at a young age.
Mental Health Support
Counseling Services:
Our students have access to licensed counselors in our community center, where they can participate in individual and group sessions to address personal, academic, and social issues. Our students can courageously share their experiences in a safe space and embark on a transformative journey towards healing.
Mindfulness and Relaxation:
Activities such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness exercises are available for our youth, teaching them how to manage stress and anxiety. These tools help our students feel safe and supported, and managing stress will help them excel in every aspect of their journey.
Social Skills Development:
As part of our focus on healing, we facilitate workshops and activities designed to improve communication, empathy, and conflict resolution skills, empowering our youth to be the best friends, leaders, and people they can be.
Emotional Literacy:
We help our students learn how to recognize and manage their emotions through our programming, empowering our youth to release their burdens and find liberation while fostering a positive environment for growth and personal development.
Weekly Trips
Field Trips:
The highlight of our summer season is our field trips. We take our students on visits to museums, entertainment complexes, movies, and amusement parks. These field trips enrich our youth with real-world experiences, enhancing their academic and social development through these fun and engaging adventures.

Career Exploration & Mentoring
Career Exploration:
YBMKQ involves mentors who directly work with young people, providing guidance, support, and positive role modeling to help them navigate personal and professional challenges. Mentors also teach students about their respective job fields, providing firsthand insights and practical knowledge about various careers. Additionally, YBMKQ empowers students to believe that they can have any career they want through tours of local corporate and minority-owned businesses and organizations. These trips inspire passion and aspiration in the youth, introducing them to professions they may not have considered before.
Mentoring:
YBMKQ provides mentorship as a vital part of its programming, connecting students with professionals who offer guidance, support, and career insights. Through one-on-one and group mentorship, students gain confidence, leadership skills, and practical advice to navigate their goals. YBMKQ also organizes workshops, networking events, and tours of local corporate and minority-owned businesses, exposing youth to diverse career opportunities and inspiring them to pursue their dreams. These efforts ensure students have the knowledge and encouragement to reach their full potential.
Recreational Activities
Field Games:
As part of our holistic approach, we facilitate field games such as sports, obstacle courses, team building, and other camp activities for our youth to get active and find joy, community, and friendly competition in teamwork and physical activity.
Gymnasium:
We open our gymnasium to students and offer Summer Leagues for our youth. We hold space for free play with an emphasis on physical activity and teamwork, encouraging our youth to explore their creativity and practice collaboration.
Arts and Culture
Visual Art:
Art can be the most important outlet for self-expression. We provide opportunities for our students to draw, paint, and sculpt, empowering them to express their true self and heal through this expression.
Music And Drama :
We facilitate opportunities for our students to participate in music lessons and drama classes, empowering our students to explore their artistic talents and build their confidence. We work in collaboration with local musicians to provide our students the best experiences.
Media Arts :
Our students are introduced to media and performing arts mediums and techniques. We collaborate with local artists and educators who lend their expertise to the curriculum, giving our students the chance to learn from the experts.
Cultural Heritage :
We offer sessions that explore the rich history and contributions of Black and minority communities, which foster pride and cultural awareness in our students. These sessions have unparalleled significance and impact for our youth.
